Maritime Festival at the beach

Salisbury Beach Maritime Festival

Jay and I took a ride over to Salisbury Beach to check out the 2nd annual Maritime Festival being held at the State Reservation.  We had watched the gang plank/docking being built while we were camping at the beach a few weeks ago and I thought seeing the ships would be fun.

There will be a band performing  and fireworks plus being able to tour the ships sounded like a neat way to spend the day or weekend.  Saturday ended up being the first sunny day in god knows how long so the roads to the beach were congested with traffic. When we arrived at little after 11 a.m. the parking lots at the reservation were pretty much full but I really think most of the people were down at beach and not visiting the Tall Ships. At least not at the time we were there.

A Beach event with cool Tall Ships

There were a few vendors set up selling all sorts of stuff and lots of food available.  The food was of the typical beach fare  and all priced a little high in my opinion. I saw a lot of families and small crowds of people waiting to walk onto the ships but over all, I expected more people.

The Economy hurts

Maybe the high price of parking kept some people away, $9.00 to park in the Reservation plus a small fee to get onto the ships and seethe cost of food might make some think twice in this economy.  Granted the parking facilities are good with plenty of rest rooms and some concession stands but still $9.00 is pricey even if you spend the day at the beach. I’m a fan of Salisbury Beach and love the fact that it’s gone through revitalization that seems to be successful so I’ll pay the $9.00 and the high cost of food to take part in something special.

As it was, Jay and I walked around, then sat on the wall and watched the action. After we filled our bellies we ventured down to the beach where it was totally packed with beach bodies all over the place!  Scoping out your own spot on the sand was difficult.

If I had little kids it would have been a total blast and I would recommend to anyone looking to do something different to visit the Maritime Festival. Sunday July 26th is the last day… so grab the camera and head over tomorrow.

Enjoying Southern New Hampshire Living

A few days at the beach has a way of recharging me…making me realize just how lucky I am that I can come here. While camping at the beach, we can work and enjoy all the sights and sounds of beach side living.

The Atlantic ocean, the smell of salt in the air, the gorgeous wild beach roses, cooking outdoors, sitting under the awning…it’s all so relaxing. We booked this camping trip last Thursday and were lucky enough to get a spot for the very next morning, Friday, which is almost unheard of… a weekend at one of Massachusetts most popular state parks booked at the last minute. Flat Matt and Anna Banana..fun at the beach!

Flat Matt and Anna Banana experience camping… albeit for a short time!!!

Ann Cummings and her honey Bear, brought Active Rain’s Flat Matt to Salisbury State Beach Reservation Camp Ground to visit us recently.

Jay and I were deeply honored to have Flat Matt visit our humble home on wheels and I was a nervous hostess as I really wanted Flatt Matt’s 1st New England camping experience to be exceptional.

Flat Matt took a little walkabout checking out some camp sites and the very pretty campground beach. He seemed to enjoy himself very much even though his goofy expression never changed much!

Salisbury Beach is a perfect place for Flat Matt to feel at home and “fit in“, as there are so many interesting characters here that nobody thought much of a few ADULTS walking about with a paper “doll” LOL!!!

After our walkabout we went back to our campsite and enjoyed a few beverages while waiting for fellow guests and REALTOR /hairdresser Trish Callahan and her honey Jack.

Flat Matt was entertained by the Callahan’s who recently bought a new to them camper and if you have seen the movie RV…the Callahan’s could be the main characters in the movie. No exaggeration!!! LOL they are a hoot! I wonder if Trish and Jack have seen the movie RV???

Flat Matt enjoyed a campfire meal prepared by yours truly and I even started the campfire all by myself. Now that is a first! I must have really wanted Flat Matt to enjoy himself camping!

It was a late night, as Flat Matt, Anna Banana, Bear, Jay and I sat around chatting by the fire. It was fun to be out at the beach enjoying the company of Flat Matt and our good friends.

We were due to leave the beach on Sunday but Jay surprised me by booking and extra 5 days….Yippee!

He was lucky to be able to get a spot as this place is very popular especially for the Labor Day holiday. Wonder if he has any other surprises in store for me????

Sunrise at Salisbury Beach…it is so pretty!
