A big mistake I see many REALTORS making when venturing out in the Social Media realm is to take the advice of well-meaning SEO Experts. We all want to be found on the net and we all want that competitive edge but sometimes taking that advice can get you into deep trouble.

Recently I spoke at the Seacoast Board of REALTORS membership meeting and my topic was “top fatal mistakes REALTORS make” and I have to say that one mistake I see often is taking the advice of a SEO expert! Just because you hired them to build you a website, a blog or maybe even a Facebook business page does not mean you should just do everything they tell you to do. You need to remember that often the SEO experts, while knowing their stuff, have no real clue about the rules and regulations we have to abide by and how our industry really works so please use some common sense and evaluate the advice before you jump into it. Certain things like Fair Housing, Steering, talking about schools, churches and failing to mention your brokerage firm are all violations and can result in getting you into trouble.
