Have you ever seen the moon rise over the ocean? Sometimes I think we forget just how incredibly beautiful our little part of world is. Last Monday we drove up to Wells Maine to meet up with our friends Bill and Nada Marth. They were on their way home from Bar Harbor Maine and decided on an overnight in Wells. We made plans to have dinner at Billy’s Chowder House, a favorite of theirs. Timing is everything… when we finished dinner we noticed the moon rising over by the beach. It was AWESOME to see so we drove over and took some photos of it. I can honestly tell you I have never seen a sight like it. My camera does not do well in low light but my pictures came out okay. Nothing compares to the real deal!!!

Linekin Bay Maine Kayaking trip

So far this year we have not kayaked near as much as would have liked but recently while in Boothbay Harbor Maine we went out on Linekin Bay.
Jay and I set out at about 10:30 in the morning with a goal of reaching Ocean Point and then paddling back to our put in at the Murray Hill boat launch in East Boothbay.
High tide was at 1:31 pm and we knew we’d be able to get in a few hours of easy paddling.
Neither one of us had dipped our paddle in water since last summer! I think we’re classic fair weather paddlers.
This was our shake out paddle….working the kinks out so to speak.
When we put our kayaks in at the public boat launch at Murray Hill the water was like glass.
We glided along in the water marveling at the scenery…the lovely homes, sail boats and nature all around us.
I was trying to get used to being in my boat, a 17 foot long by 22 inches wide red Boreal Designs Ellesmere Kevlar kayak. A long narrow kayak like that requires good balance and quick hip movements.
I wanted to take pictures of everything but was limited as I knew the water temperature was about 55 degrees and I still needed to gain my confidence. Balancing a sea kayak and a camera can be tricky!
Jay and I paddled towards Ocean Point staying close to the shore and each other.
It was lovely and at one point we stopped at Spruce Shores to stretch and have a snack!
Once we reached Ocean Point the waves picked up as we were no longer protected by the bay but out in the open ocean. We stayed long enough to drink in the view and turned our boats back.
Our return leg gave us the afternoon winds at our back which pushed us along at a faster clip. It took us a couple hours to kayak out and just one hour to get back!
It was a beautiful sunny day in Boothbay Maine
one to remember and cherish!
Enjoy our virtual tour by clicking on the buoy below and remember I was sitting in my kayak while taking most of these pictures. Jay took a few too!
We love visiting the coast of Maine and hope you enjoy our tour.
