Southern NH Living

No need to travel far to experience life’s thrills

Living in Southern NH offers opportunities to visit the most awesome places and experience life’s thrills all within an easy reach. For example Jay and I love to visit Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor Maine and it takes us about 5 hours via motor home to get there.  By car it would be a little faster for sure.

What’s so big about Acadia National Park?

It’s gorgeous for one thing and has something to offer everyone. We recently vacationed in Bar Harbor, as we do every year, and it was perfect. We got to bike, hike, swim, sail and just enjoy the ocean. The views are incredible and all this is located so close to home it’s almost impossible to not plan a visit.  We camped at the KOA on the shores of Western Bay and enjoyed some wonderful weather and fantastic Maine Lobster.

Come enjoy living in Southern NH where vacations options are all around you!

It’s really a sweet place to call home and if you’re like us… a sweet place to explore from. Living here offers the best of everything. The NH coast is but a scant 30 minutes away and Boston only an hour south of us. If you like the mountains, awesome Lakes and exploring the wonders of Vermont, the great outdoors of Maine then there is no better place than Southern NH to call home.

Vacation and dream a little through us

Enjoy our little vacation show and if you’re ready to call Southern NH your home just give us a call and we can make that dream a reality.

Bar Harbor Maine

Bar Harbor Camping

Living in New Hampshire offers many fine outdoor activities. Camping is just one of them. This is a 2nd in my camping series. I’d like to take you to places where Jay and I camp and know well.

As many of you know, Jay and I take a yearly trek to Bar Harbor Maine. Bar Harbor is a 5 hour car ride from our home in Hampstead New Hampshire and those 5 hours are well worth it!

We’re campers and camp in our 40 foot motor home. I hate to call it camping as my motor home really has all the comforts of home and then some. From tile floors, Corian counters, washer and dryer to my awesome stereo and Satellite TV…it’s very comfortable camping to us.

We started camping in a tent and then decided we were getting too old to be on the ground, so about 5 years ago we bought our first Class A motor home. We loved the life style so much we bought a larger motor home 4 years later.

New England has some mighty fine camping. That is one major plus to owning a home in New Hampshire. A world of exploration, gorgeous ocean and beach camping plus mountains and lakes galore, all within reach and very affordable.

If you’re a camper you know it’s hard to find or maybe it’s better stated that it is hard to get the perfect spot. Choice camping spots go fast and reservations are a must.

We book our Bar Harbor trip a year in advance…before we leave we reserve and pay to guarantee out site for the following year and we always get the same spot. I’m very willing to pay extra to make sure I have “my” spot.

The views from our site are breathtaking. Waking up to the sounds of the waves caressing the rocks is just awesome. I step out my door and I’m just steps away from the water’s edge. We’ve seen wild life from Eagles to Seals and have met the most wonderful people while camping in Bar Harbor.

Maine Majestic OceanAcadia National Park is a big draw and the Bar Harbor area can be very crowded, especially downtown Bar Harbor. The Carriage trails in Acadia are great for biking, walking and horseback riding and the views from atop of Cadillac Mountain are incredible.

We always make sure to stop at Jordan House for Pop-Over’s…it’s a ritual that we simply wouldn’t miss.

Lobsters and Steamers for dinner as often as we can afford them…we buy them off the Lobster man and cook them ourselves at our site. The experience is priceless thank god for Master Card!

Schoodic Point, a part of Acadia separate from the main area is a not to miss spot. It is very much off the beaten path and usually never crowded. We pack a picnic lunch and drive out to the point and sit upon the rocks enjoying the view, each other and a fine lunch.

Many have asked why we go back to the same place each year? Well truth be told no matter how often we go we always see something new each trip and the scenery is ever changing as only Down East Maine can be.

We love it and I hope my video show and my virtual tour of the area will help explain why. I think it might be a little long but you can get a feel for our campsite at the KOA in Bar Harbor, Maine

Batteries running low…time to recharge

Recharging my Batteries!

Working under awning copyright Monika McGillicuddyWe’ve been on vacation for the last two weeks.

When I say vacation please understand that during that time we both worked every day albeit from a distance.

I negotiated a contract, searched for homes, gave listing updates,e-mailed my e-leads, picked up 6 new e-leads, set up showing appointments… all while being hundreds of miles from my home and office.

Thank god for E-fax, WiFi, lap tops and small printers!

While I limited my blogging time severely I did pop in and check Active Rain every-once in awhile.

It was good to get away but even while away I never really got away from real estate.

Normal people take vacations and leave their work behind. Normal people clock out on Friday and don’t think about work until Monday..normal people don’t work nearly every weekend, normal people leave the office at 5pm or 6pm, normal people have benefits and health insurance. Don’t they?

I guess I’m not very normal but I do love what I do and the freedom it allows me. So when my mom says “you’re leaving again?” with that look on her face or my friends say “you guys always take off in that RV.” I have to remind them what my life is really like when I’m away.

You know what… I wouldn’t trade it for anything. life is too short to wait until tomorrow to do something special. Jay and I try and make every day special in some little way. No regrets here!

bay of Fundy copyright Monika McGillicuddyThis trip found us in Canada fulfilling a life long dream of Jays as we walked the ocean floor at Hopewell Rocks in the Bay of Fundy. It was a fantastic experience.

At times in New Brunswick I thought I was in Hawaii…it is so majestic.

After we left New Brunswick we went to Bar Harbor Maine for our annual week at the Bar Harbor KOA.

We have the best site in the entire park! No exaggeration…our site is waterfront and we can kayak right from our campsite.  This shot was taken at low tide…when it is high tide the water comes right up to the grass.

We were lucky enough to have Hopewell Rocks copyright Monika Mcgillicuddyseveral wonderful sunsets and some very tasty Maine Lobster.Sunset Bar Harbor Maine copyright Monika McGillicuddy There is nothing like it!

I guess it’s time to get back to work and blogging!

My Reality

We just got home from nearly two weeks away…we needed to get away and recharge our batteries! We drove to Canada in the RV and explored the Bay of Fundy area. It was simply awesome. We walked the ocean floor and celebrated the wonder of mother nature. This has been a dream of Jay’s since he was a little boy. Check out his post about the experience here >>>Hopewell Rocks and Jay McGillicuddy.

We had a blast in Canada and then went to Bar Harbor Maine for our annual summer vacation. This is our 5th year in a row camping in Bar Harbor. We stay at the Bar Harbor KOA and our site is on the shore of Western Bay. There is nothing like Maine lobster…cooked outdoors and enjoyed with a glass of wine. We saw some awesome sunsets right from our campsite.

We enjoyed the company of our good friends and camping buddies, Bill and Nada Marth (who also went to Canada with us) and Mike and Judy Tuscano, fellow REALTORS as well as friends. Mike and Judy’s daughter Tina and her family also came up for a few days in their new Pop-Up camper.

Not all was just fun and games as we negotiated an offer on one of our listings and searched available properties for clients. Thank goodness for WiFi and our laptops!

Even while in an other country we were able to stay connected with our customers and clients and of course family.

Now its back to reality…I’m showing houses tomorrow and have encountered multiple offers on homes that I’ve tried to set up to show. As the prices decrease the serious buyers out there are making offers. It’s a good thing as there are some incredible buys out there.
