Hampstead NH has a new Bean in Town

Bean TowneThere’s a new Bean in town…. and everybody’s talking about the new Bean in town.

So I decided to go visit the new bean in town called Bean Towne. To say it is a coffee shop like none other which Hampstead and surrounding communities has seen before is an understatement.

Admittedly, I have always considered myself a coffee snob…but truly I had no idea.

For months I’ve been reading the cute little signs on Rte. 111 with clever sayings like “Friends don’t let friends dunk” and I’d always chuckle and think there’s a coffee war going on. [Read more...]

More than a feeling….

In my feed-reader today I found a tribute to Brad Delp…It was the first thing I saw this morning when I fired up my lap top and I just had to read it even though I knew it would be a difficult read and of course watch the video. It really made me feel sad and a bit melancholy…it was more than a feeling…it was something much deeper.

Memories, fond memories of a local rock band made big…a band called Boston…I felt a sadness that I wasn’t sure I could shake at least not right away.

Brad Delp was the lead singer of the band Boston and he lived in the next town over from us, Atkinson New Hampshire.

Brad committed suicide earlier this year. His suicide left his family and friends, his fans and his community all asking why and deeply shook.

What would make a by all accounts nice guy, one who blended into his community and gave of himself… seal and lock himself in his bathroom with a note paper-clipped to his shirt and two gas grills fired up???

It still makes me sad thinking of it 6 months later.
One of his bands biggest hits was a song called “More than a feeling” and I thought what a fitting song to use as a tribute to a man long known as one of the nicest rock stars ever.
A tribute to Brad Delp…may he rest in peace.

Atkinson NH …more controversy

Embattled Police chief Consentino under fire again! Today’s Sunday Eagle Tribune ran a front page story titled “Residents decry chief’s behavior” and when I saw it I thought…it just never ends. Seems as if the Chief has been under attack for years yet he stays on and on.

Small town politics can be very amusing to say the least. I remember reading and hearing about his ongoing battles and supposed suspect behavior for years…he is not alone. Seems as if Atkinson has had her share of interesting characters running the town. Towns people suing…towns people voicing their opinions and blogging about it on the Atkinson Reporter a local blog site.

Atkinson Town Hall

Atkinson New Hampshire is a very pretty small New England town with pride galore and is a great place to live even if the local politics are pretty ridiculous…sort of like being back in elementary school…sometimes so very childish.

Unfortunately the effects of it all are no laughing matter.

Just my 2 cents.

A little bit about Atkinson NH

A little bit about Atkinson New Hampshire

I love driving through Atkinson ,especially during the fall along Rte 121 where the road is embraced by trees and when the colors change…Wow is it ever pretty!  Next year I am going to make a point of taking photos along that road!

Atkinson is a small Southern NH town in Rockingham County; the community was named after Col. Theodore Atkinson, a landowner whose farm once covered a good portion of the town. He was the Brother-in-law to Governor Benning Wentworth, and served as secretary of the colony until the Revolution.

Atkinson contains 11.2 square miles of land area and 0.2 square miles of inland water area.

The latitude of Atkinson is 42.838N. The longitude is -71.147W. Elevation is 262 feet.
The population, at the time of the 2004 census, was 6,638

Atkinson is a popular community whose border location is ideal for those commuting to Massachusetts or simply wishing to have easy access to the highway. The city of Boston is an hour away, travel  35 minutes east and you’ll find  fine ocean beaches or 1 to2 hours north you’ll be in ski country.

Atkinson has some pretty cool conservation trails and shares part of Big Island Pond a popular 500+/-acre lake with the towns of Hampstead and Derry NH.

Atkinson is also home to a little gem known as  The Atkinson Resort & Country Club and a challenging 18 hole championship Golf Course all nestled in the charming countryside.

Atkinson historically has had a strong re-sale value mainly due to its great location. Just a few minutes away is the town of Plaistow with it’s many fine dining options and shopping, an hour south brings you to the city of Boston, 15 minutes west brings you to the gateway of NH a town called Salem. An hour north and you arrive in the White Mountains with its many attractions plus fine ocean beaches are just a short ride away.

If I didn’t live in Hampstead I would definitely love living in Atkinson NH.
