There’s a new Bean in town…. and everybody’s talking about the new Bean in town.
So I decided to go visit the new bean in town called Bean Towne. To say it is a coffee shop like none other which Hampstead and surrounding communities has seen before is an understatement.
Admittedly, I have always considered myself a coffee snob…but truly I had no idea.
For months I’ve been reading the cute little signs on Rte. 111 with clever sayings like “Friends don’t let friends dunk” and I’d always chuckle and think there’s a coffee war going on.
I mean for years Dunkin Donuts has had a monopoly on coffee. Hampstead alone has 2 Dunkin Donuts and further down on 111 in Atkinson there is another Dunkin Donuts.
I think all 3 are within 3 miles of each other. So when Bean Towne opened, they got creative in their marketing and I’ll tell you it worked.
I stopped by for lunch with my girlfriend one day and was surprised to see all the tables full, people stopping by for takeout and getting in and out quickly. Lunch was relaxed and while the place was always full, no one rushed us. I loved the setting, casual couch and chairs in the corner, intimate little tables and very clean rest rooms (I notice that stuff) plus the food was very good and the coffee???
Let me tell you my cup of coffee was wonderful, it tasted and smelled so good. I definitely had a great cup!
I later found out that Bean Towne is one of only a handful of cafes IN THE NATION to be Gold Cup Certified by the Specialty Coffee Association of America. This simply means that the coffee right here in Hampstead has been rated within the TOP 1% of all Coffee Brewed in the Country. Move over Seattle!
I left that day clearly understanding the meaning of their slogan… It’s all about you.
I was so impressed that I went back with Jay and we chatted with the owner Ed Goyette, a ten year Hampstead resident. Ed told us that Bean Towne is getting ready to celebrate their first anniversary and it has been a successful year.
One thing I learned is that Bean Towne is more than a coffee shop…it’s a life style and for the Hampstead resident it’s about the community and supporting the community.
Ed explained to us that Bean Town is a place to be comfortable, enjoy quality service and coffee all in an environment that is community friendly. He further insisted that his business is selling coffee and not selling profit. I was impressed with that statement and it rang very true to me.
Ed told us he sleeps well at night knowing that he has the best trained staff and they all have the same goal… Quality and Service. To them, it’s more than a job, it’s knowing they are the best at what they do, and that’s something they’re proud of.
I was impressed at how spotless the back room and kitchen was and how relaxed and happy the staff all seemed to be. I never knew how important water was in the coffee process…the right temperature and the right balance. Take a look at this water filtration system…I couldn’t believe my eyes.
While we there people came in and out and the counter line moved fast…service was quick which I had wondered about since there is no drive thru. How can you compete without a drive thru I wondered? As if reading my mind Ed showed us a YouTube video he had done with his nephew Sparky and explained to us that his line moves fast and it would be a quicker in and out for the folks on the go than the drive thru down or up the street.
How true…I’ve waited in some mighty long lines getting my cup of coffee…plus think of the additional exercise you’ll get by actually getting out of your car and going inside to get your coffee …we all need that don’t we?
Ed has come up with some out of box marketing ideas and some edgy ads and I’ll tell you as a real estate agent I can appreciate his efforts to stand out and do something different. His monthly news letter, you tube videos and community support all demand attention in what otherwise is a Dunkin Donut dominated market…you can’t help but notice Bean Towne.
Oh yeah… there definitely is a new bean in town!
So if you haven’t been there yet, don’t take our word for it, try it out for yourself.
Bring your lap top, they have free wifi, and sit and enjoy a fine cup of coffee among friends. Be sure to watch the video we embedded here, it is hysterical and a fine example of creative marketing.
I think Ed has a future star on his hands with Sparky….enjoy
Oh…when you stop by Bean Towne tell them Jay and Monika sent you…while it won’t get you a free cup of coffee it might get us one

I wish we had something like this in LA! Looks awesome! Good luck.
LOL…yeah some bars do that too. This place is really neat Carole…especially with the free wifi.
Thanks for stopping by CC
The nectar of the gods I say! This place sounds wonderous. I think the local coffee shops bring people together in a way no other place can. Well ok, maybe a bar too! lol
Hey…we’ll have a little reunion…bring your lap top as well and of course the big guy. Maybe I’ll bring Jay along as well. Thanks for stopping by.
I’m with Ann who is obviously on the same page as me not liking coffee at all. Perhaps I’ll bring “the big guy” for coffee and I’ll join Ann with Diet coke. A sandwich sounds good too.
If they don’t I’ll sneak some in for you. I’d love company…oh and bring your lap top we could do a blog post or two while we indulge.
Do you suppose they serve Diet Coke in there? If they do, I could go hang out with you in there while you indulge in some coffee snobbery!
Maureen…Go for it everyone loves a good coffee story or war
Lysa…Drive on up…I’m sure they would love to
