Signs…everywhere a sign

Finally most of the political signs are down and life is getting back to normal. I am enjoying the fact that my phone is not ringing all hours of the day and night! This week my mom and dad, Johannes and Elfriede Mahler, voted for the first time in a primary. It was pretty exciting for them. They became citizens on January 18 2006. They both studied hard, really trying to learn and understand the history of our g
reat country. I was full of pride watching them study… seeing how much they tried and how seriously they took it.
Then the day came for them to take the “test” and the long wait…long wait for the test results. They passed, both of them and they were then sworn in by US District Chief Judge Steven McAuliffe (husband of Christa our NH teacher in space who died when the Challenger blew up), they were amongst 369 newly selected citizens of the USA. It was indeed a proud moment as you can see by the beaming faces of Mom and Dad. The ceremony was very special … which will not be forgotten by those of us watching. Last year they voted for the 1st time in Salem NH casting their ballots in the local town elections.
They were very excited to take part in the process and couldn’t wait for the National elections. Finally that day arrived and they went bright and early to cast their ballots. Then they watched the election results on TV and feeling like they are a part of the process and that they indeed made a difference.
I am so very proud of them… Don’t they look cute???

That sure was a great day and I loved how your dad cut in line to get on stage. He sure was proud standing there with the Judge.
