One of the special things about living in New Hampshire is the abundance of choices for vacation destinations and quick get aways.
With the price of fuel being on every ones mind and affecting everything we do, it’s nice to know that somethings don’t have to break the bank to enjoy. The nice thing about living here is that it is a paradise for “close to home” vacations. Whether you stay in a hotel or prefer to camp you won’t be disappointed. [Read more →]

There are 13 homes currently on the market in MLS that offer either water frontage or water rights and or views on Big Island Pond in Southern NH. Prices range from $145,900 for a seasonal cottage in the town of Derry to $769,900 in the town of Atkinson. Big Island Pond is a 500 acre +/- private pond that covers the towns of Atkinson, Hampstead and Derry. Prices on the pond have really come down…maybe now is the time to own your own piece of paradise. I’ve been watching real estate on the pond for 23 years and I never thought I’d see such a level of affordability again!
We spent 4th of July camping up in Boothbay Harbor Maine. We camped at Shore Hills Campground and stayed on site number 80 down by the water. Even though we have what is considered a big rig we really don’t like to stay up in the big rig section of the campground. We prefer to squeeze in down by the water and love it. This trip was a bit more expensive than in past years due to the increase in fuel costs but still a reasonable way to vacation. A long weekend getaway to the Boothbay Harbor region of Maine is abut 2.5 to 3 hours from southern NH and is just another reason why living here is so popular. I created a little slide show of the campground and if you read our Blog regularly you know there will be more pictures coming. In the meantime you can also check out some of our pictures at http://www.nhviewfinders.com/ our photo blog.
New Hampshire only has 18 miles of coastline, but all 18 miles are beautiful and very changeable. Dotted through-out those 18 miles are 6 public access beaches and one of them is Seabrook Beach. Seabrook Beach has long been over shadowed by the Nuclear Power Plant…an ugly blight on what would normally be a pretty landscape. The beach itself is small and clean and never really crowded. Seabrook is nestled between the two popular beach towns of Salisbury Mass and Hampton NH. Next time you’re in the area visit Seabrook and be sure to try a seafood chowder at Ceal’s Clam Stand.
I was pretty unhappy when I found out that The Pond View restaurant in Kingston New Hampshire had closed. I used to like going there, not so much for the food but for the ambiance. The table settings, where everything was different and unmatched yet somehow all belonged, was a treat to see. The Gazebo overlooking the pond and the lounge that was like taking a trip through Movie land.
I was sad to see the place change and eventually go out of business, not to mention that last Christmas someone there sold my son a gift certificate. One that he gave to Jay and me for our Christmas gift…only to end up being no good. I figured they must have needed the money as they surely had to know they would be closing soon. My fault…we probably should have used it right a way. Oh well!
The good news is that the Pond View was bought by another local restaurant owner, Rick Korn who along with his wife, own and operate Rick’s Cafe and Grill on Maine Street. They plan to re-open as Rick’s Pond View and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with it. Rick’s Cafe is known to have good food so I bet it will be a good mix for the lovely historic building on Rt 125 in Kingston.
