The Kanover Controversy

Hannaford’s grocery store is creating quite a little controversy in Kingston NH. The Kanover development Corp. had proposed the development of new 36,000 sq ft grocery chain right in the heart of Kingston. Blogger “Rose” writes about her feelings on her weblog …Rose: Writing for the Web and Apparently as reported on the Seacoast on line today Kanover withdrew the application from the Historic District Commission. It looks like it may be on hold at least until Spring.

Read an insiders feelings about Kingston New Hampshire: A Special Place/

Was it pressure from the locals or was it, as the property owner stated simply that engineers needed more time to fine-tune details regarding landscaping, lighting, signage and traffic. It will be interesting to watch what happens as Kingston is a real neat little town chock full of history.

I’m on the fence about this one…I like Kingston the way it is but I also understand the desire to increase the tax base and provide an ease of shopping especially for the elderly.

This will be something to watch.
