REALTOR Safety Alert

This week we had a Safety Alert go out through the REALTOR community and because I know that many REALTORS as well as consumers read my blog I thought I’d post this video as a reminder to all my peers and anyone selling a home to be careful. It seems as if someone posing as a buyer is trying to get REALTORS to show him houses…empty houses and he claims to be a cash buyer but all his information is false.

Trust your gut….

I’d like to add that you should react like a first responder because in most cases that is what you will be. Unfortunately, the police usually arrive after the crime has been committed. So, it is up to you to be prepared in every way possible. Think about all the dangerous situations that could arise and then have a mental plan for each one. In this way you can react quickly without freezing like a deer in headlights.
Always have a personal protection product at the ready and know how and when to use it.

Be safe, not sorry and always have the element of surprise on your side.

  2. Beth, Your very welcome. I think your site is great! I’ll work on some safety tips for your blog and will send it via e-mail with a photo. Thank you for asking!!!
It will take a few days as I am out straight. Thank you so much for the opportunity.

    Go Pats…

Moni, thank you very much for adding my site to your site. I myself have not taught any classes as yet. My husband, through our home inspection company, teaches several different classes. Through my blog, I want to be able to promote safety and self defense for realtors, but don’t know if I’ll be able to actually teach a class. I would probably set up the class and have a self defense instructor or police officer come in and talk about safety and self defense. I sold real estate for 7 years back in the late 90′s and never worried or had any issue with safety but today, that is not the case. So many realtors, men but especially women, have had serious issues while being involved with real estate and its just a very scary thing. As I said in one of my earlier posts, we need to be safe and we need to know and remember how to be safe. That is where I want to help with my blog. Beth (PS any ideas or safety tips would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you would like to type out a safety tip that you use while conducting real estate that would help other realtors, I would be honored to make a post on my blog and include all your information. If you would like to send along a picture (its up to you) I would put your picture and your safety tip. My email is: Beth [at] realtorsafety911 [dot] com)

  4. CE credits are a long shot but I thought if I could write the course objective with a consumer protection slant…I might have a shot. Reality is probably closer to and hour and half. I’ll have to think about the video…I hate seeing myself on camera LOL.
What other classes do you teach?

  5. Beth says:

Hi Monie: I think CE Credits are a wonderful idea but here in Georgia, I am not sure they will okay it. We are a real estate school through our home inspection company but they have strict guidelines to the CE Class. Safety for the real estate agent is definitely needed and if that can be done through your real estate commission, that would be great. We were looking more for a 1 to 1.5 hour class on safety with maybe a police officer and/or a self defense instructor coming by and showing some basic self defense moves. We have a certified instructor in self defense coming by for the class. Video taping the class would be a good idea because you can use it as lead generation and such. We always try to get videos of everything we do. You never know when the videos will come in handy. Beth

    Beth,
Thanks. I’ll add your site as well.
I was planning on using some video clips and some of NAR’s material. I hadn’t thought of videoing my class at all. also I’m not sure on how long it should be. I was hoping to fill two hours and try for CE credits.
    What are you planning?

  7. Beth says:

Moni-Thank you for the kinds words. We all need a place to go to for good information. I would love to know about what you are going to provide in your safety class, I am considering doing one here in Atlanta. Will you have the information on your site? Will you video tape the class? Please let me know.

I have also put your blog site on my blog site under ‘check out the realtor in your state’. You never know when someone in our area will be moving up to New Hampshire! Best to you. Beth

  9. Beth says:

Isn’t it just horrible. You go out to do an honest days work and this kind of stuff happens…We need to be safe and we need to know and remember how to be safe. Its a jungle out there! Its great to have a place to go to and reiterate what we know about personal safety. Thanks for having that place to go. Remember, your personal safety is up to you!
