Rochester Fair this weekend

I can’t believe that summer is really over but with the Rochester Fair starting this weekend I can’t deny it any more. Where did the summer go or should I say where did the year go???

Don’t miss the fair this weekend as it is usually a great time for all. Check out the details on their website and who knows you might see us there. Rochester Fair

Taylor Sawmill Derry New Hampshire

Have you ever walked or driven by something on a regular basis and never really see it? It’s part of the landscape you take for granted, always there but you never stop to look or explore.
Taylor Sawmill is like that for me. I’ve often admired it as I drove by on my way to somewhere important, always too rushed to stop and really take it in. Today was different, not that I had more time but something compelled me to stop and get out of my car and walk around the Mill. I was surprised to discover it’s rich history and the fact that it is a working sawmill and open to the public. The sawmill over looks Ballard Pond and is part of the 71 acre Ballard State Forest all donated to the state of New Hampshire by the owner, Mr Ballard, who owned the sawmill, a farm house and the 71 acres of forest back in 1953. Next time your driving along Island Pond Road in Derry stop at Taylor Sawmill, there is parking across the street and walk around…you’ll be glad you did. We haven’t tried yet but kayaking or canoing on Ballard Pond must be pretty neat.

Enjoy my video and virtual tour of Taylor Mill and Ballard Pond.

A New England Camping trip…memories to last a lifetime

Along Boothbay Shores

One of the special things about living in New Hampshire is the abundance of choices for vacation destinations and quick get aways.

With the price of fuel being on every ones mind and affecting everything we do, it’s nice to know that somethings don’t have to break the bank to enjoy. The nice thing about living here is that it is a paradise for “close to home” vacations. Whether you stay in a hotel or prefer to camp you won’t be disappointed. Read more

Boothbay Harbor Maine Camping Trip

We spent 4th of July camping up in Boothbay Harbor Maine. We camped at Shore Hills Campground and stayed on site number 80 down by the water. Even though we have what is considered a big rig we really don’t like to stay up in the big rig section of the campground. We prefer to squeeze in down by the water and love it. This trip was a bit more expensive than in past years due to the increase in fuel costs but still a reasonable way to vacation. A long weekend getaway to the Boothbay Harbor region of Maine is abut 2.5 to 3 hours from southern NH and is just another reason why living here is so popular. I created a little slide show of the campground and if you read our Blog regularly you know there will be more pictures coming. In the meantime you can also check out some of our pictures at http://www.nhviewfinders.com/ our photo blog.

Seabrook Beach NH

New Hampshire only has 18 miles of coastline, but all 18 miles are beautiful and very changeable. Dotted through-out those 18 miles are 6 public access beaches and one of them is Seabrook Beach. Seabrook Beach has long been over shadowed by the Nuclear Power Plant…an ugly blight on what would normally be a pretty landscape. The beach itself is small and clean and never really crowded. Seabrook is nestled between the two popular beach towns of Salisbury Mass and Hampton NH. Next time you’re in the area visit Seabrook and be sure to try a seafood chowder at Ceal’s Clam Stand.
